Well first things first, DEMAT accounts are as good as Bank accounts, difference is here you transact not in money, but in shares, IPOs, Mutual Funds, Future, Options etc. So it cannot be opened online as you are required to put your physical signatures on DMAT opening form. For opening a DEMAT you need to have the following--
1. Bank Account2. Photo Identity Proof
4. Address Proof-- Permanent as well as temporary, if they are different.
Now, if you have all this, you can go to www.onlinesbi.com and click on the link open DEMAT account and leave your mobile no. and email address in the window there. The agents of www.sbicapsec.com ---sister concern of SBI dealing in DEMAT will contact you after 2-3 days. You can also call on there helpline nos. to receive the call early and they will come to your doorsteps, collect the photocopies of above mentioned documents, make you sign 15-20 places on the form. After 2-3 days your demat account details will be received on your mobile no. and email. For password call their helpline, in case it arrives late with WELCOME kit.
